FAQs

I WON'T KNOW MY CHILD’S EXTRACURRICULAR SCHEDULE UNTIL WEEK 1 OF TERM. HOW DO I ENROL?

If you enrol in a class before the term commences, you can change class day/time at any point by emailing us. However, this is subject to availability.

Can only Grace Park Hawthorn Club members access Hubble Tennis coaching?

Both Grace Park Hawthorn Club members and non-members are welcome to access Hubble Tennis coaching.

HOW DO I ENROL? AND CAN I ENROL AFTER THE TERM HAS COMMENCED?
Private Lesson:

For private lessons, please contact us via email at play@hubbletennis.com, or give us a call at 0401 429 506.

Enrolment is open throughout the term, and you'll be billed proportionally.

We recommend booking early if you have a preferred time slot. If you prefer flexibility with private lessons, you can also book ad-hoc sessions on the website.

Group Coaching:

Enrol for group coaching on our website through the schedule and customer portal. If spots are available after the term starts, you can still enrol, paying a pro-rata amount for the remaining term lessons.

Holiday Clinics:

Enrol for Holiday Clinics on our website through the schedule and customer portal. We will notify you when bookings open.

Do I need to re-enroll each term?

No need; enrolments for group coaching and private lessons automatically roll over unless you inform us otherwise.

I COULDN’T ATTEND MY LESSON, WILL I RECEIVE A MAKE-UP LESSON?

Make-up lessons are available for private, semi-private, and group sessions if the absence is due to heat, washout, or long-term injury or illness. A long-term injury or illness is when someone misses three consecutive weeks and provides a medical certificate.

If you can't make a private lesson, you can arrange for a friend or family member to attend in your place with 12 hours prior written notice to the coach. If you can't make a group lesson or holiday clinic, you can arrange for a friend or family member of similar age and standard to attend in your place with 12 hours prior written notice to your Coach or Director.

What do I wear and bring?

Please wear correct footwear; such as tennis shoes or flat soled shoes.
Please bring a drink bottle, racquet, sunscreen, and a hat.

What’s your extreme weather policy?

For high temperatures, lessons won't be held if it exceeds 37 degrees Celsius. Between 32-36 degrees, lessons will be adjusted. If washed out, your coach will notify you via text. No message means the lesson is still on. Where possible coaching will go inside the clubhouse for lessons in extreme weather.

HOW OLD DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE TO START LESSONS?

Coaching starts from three years old, depending on when your child is ready.

What court surface will I be coached on?

Lessons take place on en tout cas courts and the hardcourt mini court (red ball only).

CAN PARENTS WATCH?

Yes, parents are encouraged to watch, however we ask that parents do not enter the court during lessons unless requested by the coach.

Payment?

Payments for group and private lessons are due 1 week before term commences.

What is “Junior Comp”?

Junior competition is for players competing on Sunday mornings in a GPHC team against other clubs in the Bayside Region.

It requires all players to be members of Grace Park Hawthorn Club, which is a separate membership.

Typically players are 10+ years old and are confident to play a match on a full court. Please direct Junior Comp enquires to tennis@gphc.com.au

WEATHER - What happens if it rains?

We will do everything possible to run our programs as scheduled and may run classes indoors if necessary. However, the weather may force us to cancel. Decisions to cancel lessons will generally not be made until immediately prior to the scheduled lesson commencement time.

If we haven’t notified you, the lesson is on.

When should I start?

Our programs are designed to allow students to commence learning from any point within the program.

Our focus is to ensure each student is grouped with players of a similar age and skill level. We also use the Tennis Australia endorsed Hotshots program to help grade students.

Please read the class descriptions to determine the best class or give us a call and we would be happy to help.

School Holiday Clinics Policy

If your child is feeling unwell and cannot attend the clinic on a particular day or days, please inform us at least 12 hours in advance. We will be happy to arrange an alternative class for your child during that week, subject to availability. Alternatively, you can send a friend or family member of a similiar age and ability to take their spot.

We appreciate your understanding as we strive to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy our tennis offerings. Thank you for your cooperation.

GROUP COACHING MAKE-UP LESSON POLICY

At Hubble Tennis, we understand that life can be unpredictable, and we want to ensure a fair and enjoyable tennis experience for everyone. Please be aware of our group coaching make-up lesson policy, which is designed to accommodate specific circumstances:

ELIGIBILITY FOR MAKE-UP LESSONS:

Make-up lessons are granted under the following circumstances:

  • A lesson is a washout (less than 50% completed due to wet weather).
  • Heatout conditions (38 degrees Celsius or higher according to the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology). The temperature will be taken at GPHC, as your safety is our primary concern.
  • A player sustains a long-term injury or illness, preventing play for 3 consecutive weeks, with a medical certificate provided. The injury/illness period commences from the time of email notification to Hubble Tennis.

PLEASE NOTE:

We value your commitment to improving your game and being part of Hubble Tennis. Make-up lessons are not applicable for reasons such as, but not limited to, personal holidays, business trips, school camps/excursions, no-shows, general sickness or injury, school/work commitments, or failure to attend a scheduled make-up lesson.

ARRANGING MAKE-UP GROUP COACHING LESSONS:

Make-up lessons are offered subject to availability and are not guaranteed.

All group coaching make-up lessons are to be coordinated directly with Miranda on 0401429506 or email.

Make-up lessons can be scheduled at any time during the school term and are not carried over to school holidays.

We recommend scheduling make-ups promptly to ensure availability, especially as lessons are very full. Please email play@hubbletennis.com or call Miranda on 0401429506 to arrange.

Hubble Tennis will work hard to try and find a suitable make-up class. However, if no time is agreed upon by the term's end, the lesson will be forfeited.

GROUP LESSON ATTENDANCE:

If you can't attend your group lesson and you have a family member or friend at a similar level and age, we welcome them to attend as a substitute. Please notify Miranda 12 hours in advance on 0401429506 to ensure a tailored and beneficial lesson.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation, as you are paying for the term spot and expertise of our coaches. Thank you for being a part of the Hubble Tennis community.
